When A Quilt Wants to Dance ~Flimsy Alert!~

Whoop! Whoop!

My "Set Sail" quilt top is Aliiiive!

If you were a quilt center that had been hanging sadly in your maker's Flimsy Closet for just one week shy of four years (even though you were one of her very favorites). . .

Aug 7, 2013, before this closet came
to hold 37 flimsies by the time that I bought
my longarm machine 2 months ago!

. . . you would dance around, too, when she got down to business and added all your borders!

152 flying geese and several long border pieces later, it's a finished king size flimsy!

We hurried to catch a photo before today's thunderstorm moved in. Light was fading fast and I felt a drop when this baby finally said, "Whew. I'm finished now."  (dancing, that is)

The pattern is in the Fall/Winter 2008 "Quilt Sampler" magazine, and the designer is Sandy Perdue. I purchased a personalized kit from Quilting By the Bay back in 2010 with enough extra yardage to convert it to the king size. (The original pattern doesn't have the geese along the sides.)

I'll be doing some custom quilting on this, and while I'd love nothing more than to load it onto my still-new longarm and get right to work on that, I need to practice my skill level up just a bit more to be entirely happy with the result. So I have two other tops that will go through first. But I am determined to have this on my bed before August ends!

P.S. This kind of work has gone on solidly for the last several months without any recording, so hopefully I have my act back together enough to put more than BOM work on my blog again. It's been a bit isolating to not share things regularly, but it's been all I could do to recover from that super pernicious Lupus flare that hit all through Jan/Feb/Mar and then not only get back up to my normal speed in Taekwondo, but to start ramping things up several notches as Marissa and I enter the final approach to earning our blackbelts. Exciting times!

BOMS Away - Pushing for two finishes

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Do you ever start Block-of-the-Months and then not finish them?
Or maybe you just like doing a lot of them?
This is where you can share what you're doing on a BOM or anything you work on at given intervals.
Show us what you accomplished in the past week or so!

Lots of good BOM work this cycle:

Since I'd left the last baggies of my pieces out for Star Crazy, on Tuesday I finished up the rest of its blocks!

WHOOP! WHOOP!!!! I am insanely happy for this quilt's blocks to All Be Made!!

And today I finished the last two focus blocks for Fall All Around:

Palace Garden

Magnolia Court

as well as getting half the strip sets sewn together for doing the sashing and cornerstones:

Can't wait to get each of these quilt tops assembled!

**Next-day Edit**

I finished up the last of the blocks for Fall All Around.  :D

The last 14 leaves, 31 sashing blocks, and 20 checkerboard cornerstones:

How 'bout it?  :)  Did you do any BOM work lately?

It was a gorgeous day here today. Perfect for pulling everything out of the garage to sort through keepers and sellers and get the car back in there.  :)

Around that ginormous job, I got all of the month 10 work finished and about 2/3 of month 11 for Star Crazy:

I so completely am ready for this quilt's blocks to be FINISHED!!  heh!

Oh! And I'm so proud of my oldest daughter. Heather's been managing to keep moving forward with her Taekwondo work even while going through medical school. Yesterday she tested up to Bodan level. :D  I really don't think I could do that - she just amazes me.

Did you manage to get some BOM work done this past week or so?

BOMs Away - Fall All Around & Octopus's Garden

Hi, everybody. I'm really sorry I wasn't able to post last week. I hope you were able to link up through Kate's blog.

We had to go to a family funeral over in Nebraska. Helen lived a long, full life, just over 91 years, but she's left a hole for many of us. Now that I have my computer back from the shop, I'll have to make a post for her later in the week.

For BOM work, today I did a good batch of work for Fall All Around:

Two main blocks: Coat of Arms,

and Herald Square,

as well as 14 more border leaves (they come in sets of two per color):

Hopefully, I'll get back my mojo soon for working on
that Wind in the Whiskers quilt!!

Also, the applique work for Octopus Garden block 2 is finished now!

I'm waiting until all the blocks are made to start a second round for the embroidery that gets added in. Been getting a little tired of looking at this project every evening for stitching time, so I'll be prepping the next Mexico Fiesta block as soon as I get a chance. It works way better for me when I can alternate between this project and that one from day to day.  *Love* my peaceful hand stitching time, but the lengthy nature of the projects get me feeling restless about them fairly easily.

How about you? Did you get any BOM quilting done?
